THE TRIUMPH OF THE STILL LIFE

Galleria Palatina
The vast Medici collection includes an important nucleus devoted to the still life, partly conserved in the Galleria Palatina. Here, among the numerous paintings belonging to this genre, we can admire two incredibly realistic still lifes of flowers and fruit by Rachel Ruysch (dated 1715 and 1716), and a fine series of elegant miniatures by Giovanna Garzoni (1600-1670).
Also in Palazzo Pitti, it is possible on request to visit the room dedicated to still life which contains various important works from both the Italian and foreign schools.

University of Florence Natural History Museum
A rich collection of still lifes, the majority painted by Bartolomeo Bimbi (Settignano Florence, 1648 - Florence, 1729), is now conserved in the Botanical Section of the Museum of Natural History of the University of Florence, and may be visited on request.
